Snazzy home, right?

Snazzy home, right? Actually, it’s – or was – a microwave repeater.  As late as the 1960s, these were THE front line of defense against Russian ICBM missiles.  Remote radar stations across Alaska and Canada would pick up the incoming missiles and the alarm would be sent via line-of-site microwave towers like this – called WHITE ALICE – to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage and then by phone line to Washington D. C.  Because of the curvature of the earth, those incoming ICBMs were only detectable on radar when they were thousands of feet off the ground. The lead time between the discovery of an incoming ICBM and a strike at Elmendorf was four minutes. Seattle was about ten minutes. WHY is this important now? Because North Korea has ICMBS and while those missiles may not be able to reach San Francisco, they can definitely hit Alaska. If you live in Kansas, what happens between Trump and Kim Il-sung is not big deal. But when you live in Anchorage, it is a VERY BIG deal.  What happens to one of us happens to all of us. Keep that in mind next time North Korea ‘test fires’ a missile. The future may be coming faster than you think. https://www.authormasterminds.com/steve-levi
